About Grand Marnier

An iconic French brand of premium liqueur, Grand Marnier boasts a rich history, dating back to 1827 when the first distillery was built by Jean Baptiste Lapostolle in the little town of Neauphle-le-Château. In 1876, Lapostolle’s granddaughter Jean married Louis-Alexandre Marnier and four years later, the famous orange-flavored Cordon Rouge – still synonymous with the brand until this day – was released. Marnier was a pioneer and innovator, disrupting the scene by blending fine cognac with rare, bitter orange liqueur. The story goes that the name “Grand Marnier” was actually César Ritz’ idea. To return the favor, Marnier-Lapostolle helped him purchase the Hotel Ritz Paris where Grand Marnier was served during the years of La Belle Epoque. In 2016, the Campari Group took over Grand Marnier.
